Anoka County, MN: Recently, the Anoka County Minnesota (ACPF) Chapter of Pheasants Forever was honored with a plaque celebrating the chapter’s success of raising $1,000,000 for conservation efforts in Minnesota.

Among the 72 chapters statewide, ACPF is one of only 26 chapters in the state to have accomplished this goal. The award is presented to chapters that through fundraising efforts, has donated $1,000,000 for habitat projects locally and throughout the state.

Since the chapter’s inception in 1984, Anoka County PF has contributed funds for conservation projects including: woodland cover, nesting cover, food plots, land acquisitions, conservation lobbying efforts, and education. Their most recent project was the acquisition of a 211.98 acre addition to the Carlos Avery Wildlife Management Area. They are also annual contributors to the Minnesota Build-A-Wildlife-Area project.

Anoka County Pheasants Forever currently has 1,207 members, making it one of the largest chapters in the nation. In an effort to achieve the chapter’s conservation initiatives which include land acquisition and youth education, the dedicated 12-person committee tirelessly sponsors many activities throughout the year.  Among them are exhibiting at the annual Game Fair in Ramsey, MN each year, hosting a Youth Education and Fun Day event at a local gun club for the past 17 years, and various habitat projects. In addition, every year, ACPF sponsors 4-5 high school trap leagues in Anoka County through the Midway USA Scholastic Shooting Trust Fund.

“While we are grateful for the recognition of our efforts for this conservation award, it is really far more of an honor to do our part to support conservation efforts in our community” said John Newpower, Anoka County PF president. “On behalf of our 1,200 members, we strive to accomplish goals that support strong wildlife habitat environments in Anoka County and throughout our state. In addition to that, we have also made a commitment to youth to educate them about the importance of preserving their conservation legacy while also just getting them to appreciate the outdoors.”
